Every week, sometimes every day, I ask Keith:

”Would you like to go for a walk?”

Most of the time he says, yes. In the last two years, as the pandemic has altered the rhythms in our lives, our walks have become a time to connect with each other outside the house, our work, and daily chores. We walk and talk. We practice listening to each other and ask questions. We try to see the other’s point of view, and we laugh —a lot.

It was easy to convince him to take a walk in the February rain last week. I told him we’d each carry a large umbrella and take up the whole width of the walk. I captioned this photo:
When you’re happy and you know it.
