12.19.21 ~ Doe Mountain at sunrise.

Our children grew up teasing Keith and me, frequently telling us over the years, that vacationing with our family was not for weenies. This morning’s sunrise hike fell right into the “hale and hearty” category. Andrew and Sam sprinted to the top of the mesa at 6:30 a.m. I was happy to bring up the rear, pleased that this year’s running and PT sessions left me with lungs and legs that cheerfully kept up a good pace over the 3 miles and 500 feet elevation gain. Keith didn’t get too far ahead of me, occasionally calling out to me in the predawn light to make sure I was coming along.

We were surprised by balloon after balloon
launching into the tranquil, early sky.

Too many sharp things in the desert!
